From the Igloo that will never melt, to the biggest igloo in the world.

After a summer spent in Italy, Switzerland, Germany and France, I am finally ready to leave for my beloved Swedish Lapland.

In June I was involved in the international “parcours des fees” event in Crevoux, a small village not far from Embrun, in the French Alps.

I created a wooden igloo, surrounded by nature, entitled “the last refuge”. This work draws the public’s attention to the absurdity of the current perception that we have of the seasons: we have the houses hot in winter and freezing in the summer, we want to ski in Dubai in August, and swim in the Maldives at Christmas.

This attitude does nothing but increase waste and consumption of very important energy.

This work will be visible until its natural deterioration, both in the summer along a splendid and easy walk, and in winter along the cross-country track of Crevoux.

My next adventure will be both similar and in contrast with the summer: I will be in fact involve again in the construction of the famous Icehotel!

This year I designed together with my Dutch colleague Marjolein Vonk the reception and the Main Hall of the first and original Hotel made entirely of ice and snow! We have decided to continue with a theme that makes meditate the public: the inconsiderate use of plastic. In fact we will wrap the ice pillars that support the snow roof, almost 6 meters high, with “nets” in snow, which will symbolize fishing nets that abandoned at sea take several years to disappear.

Also in this case I will work exclusively with natural materials, but the climate and temperature will be the great protagonists of this new adventure: yes, because when spring arrives, it will be time to close the hotel and wait for everything to return to the river , and there will be no chance of changing this process. In this case then the seasons will win manpower.

Ho creato un igloo in larice, immerso nella natura , intitolato “the last refuge”.
